Simply add the command you wish to automate (the full location of the script) and select how often to run it. Please note that Day(s) select specific days of the month while Weekday(s) select a specific day of the week.

The output of the command can be sent to an email address if specified.

NOTE: It is important to understand that the e-mail address you supply will have an e-mail message sent to it each time this cron job runs. If this cron job runs daily, hourly etc. you may start receiving an undesirable amount of e-mail messages. It is recommended you do not use your primary e-mail address for this, unless you like receiving lots of e-mail!

To set up a cron job follow the next steps:
1.) If you want the system to email you whenever it runs a cron job, type your email address in the Email field. (If you do not wish to receive an email notifying you of a specific cron job, you can configure its command accordingly; see step 3 below.)

2.) Click Update Email.

3.) Configure the interval at which you wish to run the cron job.

  • Common Settings — This menu allows you to select a commonly used interval without having to specify settings for the minute, hour, day, month, and so on.
  • Minute — Use this drop-down menu to select the number of minutes between running the cron job, or the minute each hour on which you wish to run the cron job.
  • Hour — Use this drop-down menu to select the number of hours between running the cron job, or the hour each day on which you wish to run the cron job.
  • Day — Use this drop-down menu to select the number of days between running the cron job, or the day of the month on which you wish to run the cron job.
  • Month — Use this drop-down menu to select the number of months between running the cron job, or the month of the year in which you wish to run the cron job.
  • Weekday — Use this drop-down menu to select the day(s) of the week on which you wish to run the cron job.

4.) In the Command field, type the command you wish the system to run.
*Note: If you do not wish to receive an email notifying you of a specific cron job, you add the following line to the command: >/dev/null 2>&1
E.g. if you wish to run php script at url: http://www.your_website.com/cron.php just type following command line:
wget -q http://www.your_website.com/cron.php

5.)Click Add New Cron Job.

A Cron Job allows you to schedule a command to run at a specific time. They can allow you to automate repetitive tasks or to schedule a task to occur when you are unable to complete it. Cron Jobs are very flexible as they allow you to automate any command that you can run.

For example: If you have a script that outputs all new signups for an event you are holding, you may wish to have that output emailed to you once a day or once a week. This script may be called eventattend.cgi and it may be located at /home/user/scripts/eventattend.cgi To get the output mailed to you daily, add a cron job to execute /home/user/scripts/eventattend.cgi every day at a specified time, and be sure to specify the email address that the output should be sent to.
